2016 Interdisciplinary Arctic Expedition
First Stage completed
Kartesh docked at Naryan-Mar on July 17. The first stage of the expedition is now over. The participants covered more than 3000 nautical miles from Murmansk to Narayan-Mar through Chupa, Arkhangelsk, Novaya Zemlya and Vaygach.
Nearly a month of the round-the-clock work of photographers, cameramen and research experts is over. A comprehensive research work has been completed during the first stage; more to that, 7 photography exhibitions have been installed in hard-to-reach areas of Cape Kartesh, LMSU White Sea Biological Station, Morzhovets Island, Shoyna settlement, Kanin Nos, Mikulkin Nos weather station, Tobseda settlement. The expedition explored areas of Novaya Zemlya, such as Petukhovsky Archipelago.
Missionary work of his Grace Iakov and Father Roman in the northernmost eparchy took a special place in the expedition. A pinnacle of the expedition was the meeting with the R/V Akademik Mstislav Keldysh in the Kara Strait. For both expeditions, this milestone event appeared to be a friendship-supporting experience.
