Expedition participants visit largest settlement on Vaygach Island
The expedition participants visited Varnek, the largest settlement on Vaygach Island, inhabited by more than 100 people, predominantly the Nenets. A real winter has already started on the island. It was snowing heavily, the houses were wrapped up in snowdrifts, and the local dogs huddled up with cold.
A brand new playground for kids, located in the center of the settlement, was completely abandoned. A piercing cold arctic wind was blowing. Fighting with the storm and protecting themselves from the wind by large-format photos, the expedition participants reached the local community center and donated the artworks. Apart from that, they made acquaintance with the settlement head. That day three more project participants left Varnek for Naryan-Mar by a helicopter to return to Moscow by plane afterwards.
