At Cape Lyamchin

Cape Lyamchin, Vaygach Island

On October 9, 2015, Kartesh made a stop at a familiar Cape Lyamchin on Vaygach Island. In August, the coast of the cape had represented one huge walrus haulout, but now it is abandoned. Nevertheless, a spot of melted snow on the beach indicated recent presence of walruses.

During this short stop, the expedition participants separated into three groups. Several people went to the familiar coast in order to capture landscapes in photograph; others rode the bicycle along the snow-covered coastline; some of the participants spent time watching Arctic foxes.

The weather that day was changeable, rays of bright sun delighted the participants, but then the snow flurried around in the sky. Despite the weather, the photographers managed to take picturesque photos of the granite cliffs, reminiscent of the Easter Island Moai, or the Machu-Picchu Incan tombs.
