2015 Interdisciplinary Arctic Expedition
ended in Murmansk
The 2015 Interdisciplinary Arctic Expedition, organized by Polar Expedition Gallery project and the LMSU Marine Research Center, ended at the Murmansk harbor on October 16. The participants of the last stage of the expedition (photographer and researchers) disembarked.
The 2015 Interdisciplinary Arctic Expedition objectives and tasks have been accomplished. The participants have gathered wealth of material. Given the severe conditions of the Far North, the photographers have taken a colossal number of pictures, and the researchers carried out all the planned R&D tasks.
As part of the final expedition stage, the LMSU Marine Research Center specialists wrote off descriptions of the western coast of the Yamal Peninsula, the Yugorsky Strait coast and the coast of the Kola Peninsula. They took pictures of the coastline from aboard the vessel and ashore. The researchers have taken macrophyte samples and samples of oil oxidizing materials. Apart from that, the experts carried out underwater research with the help of the remotely operated underwater vehicles (ROVs).
Polar Expedition Gallery project participants set up exhibitions at Marre-Sale polar station as well as at Varnek community center on Vaygach Island.
As of now, a meticulous work awaits the researchers, as they have to process and analyze data. The photographers will get prepared for the upcoming exhibitions.
The Arctic bike ride was also a success. The bike ride participants managed to conquer wayless Bely Island, The Yamal Peninsula and Vaygach Island under difficult weather conditions.
