Polar Expedition Gallery Project insured by Rosgosstrakh
Polar Expedition Gallery arranged its 2015 expedition to be carried out in difficult navigation areas of the Barents and the Kara seas (Vaygach Island, Novaya Zemlya Archipelago, the Yugorsky Strait, the Yamal Peninsula, the Gulf of Ob and the Taz Estuary). While preparing for the expedition, the necessity to insure the vessel and the passengers became more and more apparent. Despite the vessel's upscale equipment, experienced crew and compulsory safety briefings for all passengers, force-majeure circumstances are possible. For instance, the vessel might be cast ashore, take the ground or collide with other vessels, icebergs or other objects.
The project board addressed Rosgosstrakh (RGS), the largest insurance company in Russia, to settle an insurance contract. The company acknowledged serious risks and agreed to meet our needs; RGS consented to settle the agreement provided that the vessel and her machinery were in satisfactory condition. A representative of Lars Krogius Surveyor Company delivered a positive opinion about the vessel, mentioned her exceptional state and good crew training. It allowed us to insure the vessel as well as settle an environmental impairment insurance package, which covers civil liability for possible oil pollution damage in the Northern Sea Route. The RGS offer turned to be particularly relevant, as the expedition route lies in the Northern Sea Route and within Special Protection National Territories, national parks and wildlife sanctuaries.
The RGS representatives thoroughly analyzed all the possible risks, worked out special conditions of insurance and assigned a personal manager to promptly complete all paperwork and issue a certificate of insurance.
Apart from that, we have reached an agreement to insure the ship’s crew and passengers (photographers and researchers). According to the policy of insurance, RGS is held liable for reimbursement of health care expenses, which includes expenses of air evacuation and further hospital admission, as well as various injuries and acute illnesses.
Polar Expedition Gallery expresses sincere gratitude to Rosgosstrakh for prompt and well-coordinated work during insurance policy preparation.
