Kartesh refueled at Mys Kamenny
R/V Kartesh moored to Mys Kamenny of the Yamal Peninsula at 5:00 pm and was refueled by the vessel Turgoyak. We express our gratitude to Artyom Fomchenko and the Turgoyak crew for their assistance.
Mys (Cape) Kamenny is a formerly flourishing settlement, where polar aviation and arctic geology bases were located. During Perestroika the settlement sank into degradation. Nevertheless, Gazprombegan constructing a crude oil loading terminal nearby in 2013. The terminal is designed to maintain adequate operation of the recently developed Novy Port oil field. The size of the terminal fascinates. Oil loading infrastructure as well as 10.5 km onshore and underwater pipelines, a storage plant, and a pump station have been constructed over the period of three years. The 1947-built airfield is still in active use.
The settlement infrastructure is rapidly developing. One of the best school in the region opened its doors to 350 children in 2014.
At 10:00 pm the R/V Kartesh continued her way to the expedition's destination, Yamburg.
