R/V Kartesh departed from the Karela coast of the White Sea and headed to Arkhangelsk. In a day, the expedition arrived at the Mudyugsky-1 receiving buoy. We still had six hours in advance before we reach Arkhangelsk, one of the largest ports of the Western Arctic. On June 16, at 3am Kartesh arrived at the Arkhangelsk Sea Port berth and took its place right under the construction site of the Michael the Archangel Cathedral.
On Sunday, the participants visited the Novaya Zemlya exhibition at the Arkhangelsk Gostiny Dvor. The majority of the displayed photos were taked during the 2015 Interdisciplinary Arctic Expedition on board the Kartesh.
We will cover a considerable part of the expedition together with his grace Iakov, the bishop of Naryan-Mar and Mezen and Father Roman, who arrived on Kartesh on June, 26. Two more LMSU Marine research center experts got on board the ship as well. Alexander Milkus, the science feature editor at the Komsomolskaya Pravda was changed by the KP journalist Yulia Smirnova. Apart from that, Kartesh was refueled and we replenished food supplies. In a few hours we are to depart for the hard-to-reach and understudied coasts of Mezen and Kanin Nos to Indiga and Tobseda.
